England's Euro 2020 Campaign Begins with a Hard-Fought Victory
Raheem Sterling's Second-Half Goal Seals Opening Win Against Croatia
The anticipation for the Euros has already kicked off, with some matches drawing closer to the final. England's Euro 2020 campaign got off to a winning start as Raheem Sterling secured victory over Croatia at Wembley.
A Hard-Fought Victory
In sweltering conditions, both teams battled it out in a closely contested match. England had the better of the chances in the first half, with Harry Kane coming closest to scoring when he saw his header saved by Dominik Livakovic. Croatia grew into the game as the half wore on, but they were unable to find a way past Jordan Pickford in the England goal.
The second half continued in much the same vein, with both teams having chances to win the game. However, it was Sterling who finally broke the deadlock in the 57th minute. The Manchester City forward collected a pass from Harry Kane and drove into the Croatian penalty area. He then cut inside and fired a low shot past Livakovic.
Croatia pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages, but England held on to secure the victory. The three points gives England a great start to their Euro 2020 campaign, and they will now be looking to build on this performance in their next match against Scotland on Friday.
