Justin Steele Contract

Chicago Cubs Shortstop Justin Steele Avoids Arbitration with 1-Year, $4 Million Contract

Steele Set for Career Year with Cubs

Versatile Shortstop Inks New Deal

Justin Steele, the Chicago Cubs' versatile shortstop, has inked a one-year, $4 million contract with the team, avoiding arbitration and ensuring his continued presence in the Windy City.

The deal, which includes $4 million guaranteed and an average annual salary of the same amount, marks a significant raise for Steele, who earned $700,000 last season. It also represents a show of faith from the Cubs, who believe that Steele has the potential to be a key contributor for years to come.

Steele, who has played both shortstop and second base for the Cubs, is coming off a breakout season in which he hit .265 with 11 home runs and 50 RBIs. He also stole 15 bases and played solid defense.

The 28-year-old shortstop is expected to play a major role for the Cubs in 2023, as they look to rebound from a disappointing 2022 campaign. He will be joined in the infield by Patrick Wisdom at third base and Nico Hoerner at second.
